Selective build & venture
Japan × Global Venture Studio
Explore and build products where technology, international business, and under-served cross-border opportunities meet.
Intelligentsia is both a strategy practice and a place to build. Selectively, we work on new products and venture concepts where a cross-border insight, a neglected workflow, or a technology shift creates room for something genuinely useful.
What attracts us
We are interested in AI-native businesses, products that bridge Japan and global markets, internet-native marketplaces, and new systems for how people discover, decide, and work.
These are areas of inquiry, not a claim of a large portfolio. We evaluate opportunities individually and share evidence only when it exists.
Begin with a specific problem
A venture thesis becomes useful when it identifies a user, a costly or persistent problem, why existing alternatives fall short, and what has changed enough to make a new approach possible.
Cross-border opportunities require an additional question: is the advantage truly portable, or does the product need a different operating model in each market?
Prototype to reduce uncertainty
Early work may include customer discovery, opportunity framing, positioning, service prototypes, lightweight software, distribution tests, or operating-model design. The artifact depends on the riskiest assumption.
The purpose of a prototype is not to simulate traction. It is to produce evidence that helps a team invest, change direction, or stop.
Design distribution with the product
Marketplaces and AI products can be easy to demonstrate and difficult to distribute. We consider audience access, trust, workflow integration, switching costs, repeat use, and unit economics alongside the product experience.
For concepts that cross Japan and the United States, positioning and local operating requirements belong in the initial design rather than a later expansion phase.
How we might work together
The model depends on the opportunity and the people involved. It may be a focused strategy/build engagement, a prototype, or a more selective long-term collaboration. We do not present a standard investment program or promise funding.
